Matthew 21:1-11

Rachel Workman: 21 As Jesus and the disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the town of Bethphage on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. 2 “Go into the village over there,” he said. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a donkey tied there, with its colt beside it. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone asks what you are doing, just say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will immediately let you take them.”

4 This took place to fulfill the prophecy that said,

5 “Tell the people of Jerusalem,[a]
    ‘Look, your King is coming to you.
He is humble, riding on a donkey—
    riding on a donkey’s colt.’”[b]

6 The two disciples did as Jesus commanded. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt to him and threw their garments over the colt, and he sat on it.[c]

8 Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting,

“Praise God[d] for the Son of David!
    Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
    Praise God in highest heaven!" Maybe they still didn't completely understand who Jesus was. He didn't come in the name of the Lord he is Lord.

10 The entire city of Jerusalem was in an uproar as he entered. “Who is this?” they asked.

11 And the crowds replied, “It’s Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

John Burnett:  21 When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” This [a]took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
Say to the daughter of Zion,
Behold your King is coming to you,
Gentle, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”  Those who knew the prophesy were the same ones who were leading the crowds in the “Crucify Him” chants.  Jesus came the first time to conquer sin and death, this next time will be much different.  He will come to reign over His kingdom and pour out judgement on those who reject Him.  Of course no one knows when He is coming but when the Chief Rabbi and Executive Director of Temple Heritage Foundation finds billions in gold to help rebuild the temple, you have to feel like it won’t be long and that has me really excited.  http://www.breakingisraelnews.com/43278/temple-mount-activists-find-billions-dollars-gold-jerusalem/#wiegYGAPKggzjZHg.97
The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on [b]the coats. Most of the crowd spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting,
“Hosanna to the Son of David;
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;
Hosanna in the highest!”  I cannot throw stones but the same people who were singing his praises were the ones yelling to crucify Him not much later than that.  They were very fickle but I am the same way.  There are days when I feel very close to God and there are others where I don’t want to have anything to do with Him.  Paul and I have the same problem.  I do the things I don’t want to do.
10 When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.”
