Luke 12:57-59

Rachel Workman: 57 “Why can’t you decide for yourselves what is right? 58 When you are on the way to court with your accuser, try to settle the matter before you get there. Otherwise, your accuser may drag you before the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, who will throw you into prison. 59 And if that happens, you won’t be free again until you have paid the very last penny.[f]
I'm so grateful for God's grace and mercy. If it were not for that, each one of us would be drug by our accuser before the judge of judges. I do know what is right. I do my best to do it. But my best falls short. Even on my best days.

Wednesday’s reading for Luke 13:1-5

13 About this time Jesus was informed that Pilate had murdered some people from Galilee as they were offering sacrifices at the Temple. “Do you think those Galileans were worse sinners than all the other people from Galilee?” Jesus asked. “Is that why they suffered? Not at all! And you will perish, too, unless you repent of your sins and turn to God. And what about the eighteen people who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them? Were they the worst sinners in Jerusalem? No, and I tell you again that unless you repent, you will perish, too.”

Luke 12:54-56

John Burnett:  54 Then Jesus turned to the crowd and said, “When you see clouds beginning to form in the west, you say, ‘Here comes a shower.’ And you are right. 55 When the south wind blows, you say, ‘Today will be a scorcher.’ And it is. 56 You fools! You know how to interpret the weather signs of the earth and sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the present times.  In these present times, one of the biggest fads in the church is the seeker sensitive movement.  Churches and Pastors are more sensitive to how someone feels while attending their church than they are to preaching the truth.  Jesus did not care how those listening to him felt about what He said and here He addressed them as you “You Fools!”  Just as we can see that weather is coming, prophesy provides signs of the times and that we should be focused on Christ’s return.  People not being able to interpret or discern the present times is a sign that Christ return is imminent.  His return should be easier to see and more anticipated than the weather.  Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Luke 12:49-52

Rachel Workman: 49 “I have come to set the world on fire, and I wish it were already burning! 50 I have a terrible baptism of suffering ahead of me, and I am under a heavy burden until it is accomplished. 51 Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I have come to divide people against each other! 52 From now on families will be split apart, three in favor of me, and two against—or two in favor and three against. Peace on earth? Not on this earth. Every time someone says something about peace on earth I think of these verses. Jesus didn't come for peace on earth. He came to separate those that are his and those that are not.

Luke 12:47-48

Rachel Workman: 47 “And a servant who knows what the master wants, but isn’t prepared and doesn’t carry out those instructions, will be severely punished. 48 But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.
The more you allow Jesus to live through you the less you will be allow yourself to not carry out God's instructions. Jesus has a way of rooting those sins out of us. I'm far from being sin free. But I have made great strides in that area.

John Burnett:  47 “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows.48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.  Jesus was beaten much for the times I did not do what the Master wants.  God has given me much and I know I have not met what He demands of me.  Thankfully, by His Amazing Grace, He took the punishment I deserve and was beaten with many blows in my stead.
