Luke 15:11-12

Rachel Workman: 11 To illustrate the point further, Jesus told them this story: “A man had two sons. 12 The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons. Obviously, this is only part of the story. My guess is things will not end well for the son who asked for his estate now. I think I'll wait for my Father to share his inheritance with me. I don't want the rewards of this earth. I want the reward of Heaven.

John Burnett:  “Or what woman, if she has ten [a]silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”  Repentance is the most important thing that the church leaves out today.  Repentance has to take place in order for angels to rejoice.  There are millions of people who claim to be Christians but have not repented of their sins.  They say they have faith but live like their unsaved neighbors.  I suspect they will be very surprised when they are standing before Jesus Christ.
The Prodigal Son
11 And He said, “A man had two sons. 12 The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that falls to me.’ So he divided his [b]wealth between them.  This story is so often misunderstood by preachers and those in the pews alike.

Tomorrow’s reading for Luke 15:13-16

13 “A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. 14 About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. 15 He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. 16 The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything.
