Rachel Workman: 29 Then he gave them this illustration: “Notice the fig tree, or any other tree. 30 When the leaves come out, you know without being told that summer is near. 31 In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that the Kingdom of God is near. 32 I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things have taken place. 33 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
I love verse 33. God's word will never
disappear. Don't you think we should take the time to be familiar with
something that will never disappear?

John Burnett: 29 Then He told them a parable: “Behold the fig tree and all the
trees;30 as soon as they put forth leaves,
you see it and know for yourselves that summer is now near. 31 So
you also, when you see these things happening, [a]recognize
that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Truly I
say to you, this [b]generation
will not pass away until all things take place.33 Heaven
and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. In the Bible, the fig tree
was a symbol for the nation of Israel. When the fig tree puts forth
leaves and begins to grow we are to know that summer (Christ = Summer) is
near. The nation of Israel has been in existence for 70 years (one
generation) and is one of the most prosperous, fastest growing economy’s in the
world despite its small size. Its growth is being compared to the leaves
sprouting on the fig tree. So when we consider the growth of Israel (fig
tree putting forth leaves) and nation of Israel occupying the homeland for 70 years
(one generation), many Bible Scholars believe that Christ is returning
soon. If they are interpreting these verses correctly, there is little
doubt about that, in my humble opinion. Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Tomorrow’s reading for Luke 21:34-38
34 “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be
dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let
that day catch you unaware, 35 like a trap. For that day will come
upon everyone living on the earth. 36 Keep alert at all times.
And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and
stand before the Son of Man.”
37 Every day Jesus went to the Temple to
teach, and each evening he returned to spend the night on the Mount of Olives. 38 The
crowds gathered at the Temple early each morning to hear him.
