Isaiah 1:14-17

Rachel Workman: I hate your new moon celebrations and your annual festivals.
    They are a burden to me. I cannot stand them!
15 When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look.
    Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen,
    for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims.
16 Wash yourselves and be clean!
    Get your sins out of my sight.
    Give up your evil ways.
17 Learn to do good.
    Seek justice.
Help the oppressed.
    Defend the cause of orphans.
    Fight for the rights of widows.

I would hate for God to tell me he hated my sacrifice which is basically what he is saying. It's a little insight for us. We can walk the walk and talk the talk but if we don't accept and repent with the right heart God could very well be speaking to us.

John Burnett:  14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts
    my soul hates;
they have become a burden to me;
    I am weary of bearing them.
15 When you spread out your hands,
    I will hide my eyes from you;
even though you make many prayers,
    I will not listen;
    your hands are full of blood.
16 Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
    remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes;
cease to do evil,
17     learn to do good;
seek justice,
    correct oppression;
bring justice to the fatherless,
    plead the widow's cause.
God is telling Israel to repent of their evil deeds.  This important part of the gospel was not preached back then or in churches today and you can tell that by the language in verse 15. Repentance is so important and without it, our deeds are a burden to God and He will hide His eyes from us and not listen to our prayers.  When we repent of our sins, it is because God has opened our eyes and shown us how really sinful we are.  Without regeneration, without being born again, you are not able to see your sin as God sees it and thus you will not confess your sin.  You will not confess what you do not know or see.

Tomorrow’s reading for Isaiah 1:18-20

“Come now, let’s settle this,”
    says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
    I will make them as white as snow.
Though they are red like crimson,
    I will make them as white as wool.
19 If you will only obey me,

    you will have plenty to eat.
20 But if you turn away and refuse to listen,
    you will be devoured by the sword of your enemies.
    I, the Lord, have spoken!”
