Acts 3:17-23
Rachel Workman: 17 “Friends,[c] I realize that
what you and your leaders did to Jesus was done in ignorance. In the Old
Testament law, there is a difference between deliberate sins and sins of
ignorance (see Lev. 4—5; Num. 15:22–31). The person who sinned presumptuously
was a rebel against God and was guilty of great sin. He was to be “cut off”
from his people (Num. 15:30–31), which could mean excommunication and even
death. The defiant “high-handed” sinner was condemned, but the person who
sinned unwittingly and without deliberate intent was given opportunity to
repent and seek God’s forgiveness. Ignorance does not remove the sinner’s
guilt, but it does mitigate the circumstances.
18 But God was fulfilling
what all the prophets had foretold about the Messiah—that he must suffer these
things. 19 Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be
wiped away. 20 Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the
Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah. 21 For he must
remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God
promised long ago through his holy prophets. 22 Moses said, ‘The Lord your God
will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people. Listen
carefully to everything he tells you.’[d] 23 Then Moses said, ‘Anyone who will
not listen to that Prophet will be completely cut off from God’s people.’[e]

John Burnett: 17 “And
now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as
your rulers did also. 18 But the things which God announced
beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ would
suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19 Therefore repent and return, so
that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may
come from the presence of the Lord; This verse is a very clear command to repent. It
doesn't say ask Jesus into your heart so that your sins may be wiped away, it
says for us to repent. For the first 37 years of my life, I asked Jesus
into my heart many times but he refused because I had not repented of my
wretchedness.20 and that He may send Jesus,
the Christ appointed for you, 21 whom heaven must receive until the period
of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of
His holy prophets from ancient time. 22 Moses said, ‘The Lord God will
raise up for you a prophet like me from your
brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. 23 And
it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be
utterly destroyed from among the people.’ I cannot wait for the
period of restoration when Christ returns to establish His Kingdom. The
Prophets spoke of this in the Old Testament and with all the prophesy that
has been fulfilled or will be fulfilled shortly, (ie. the Temple being built
and the Euphrates River drying up) it cannot be long now and I truly believe
this generation will not pass away without seeing the return of Christ.

Tomorrow’s reading for Acts 3:24-26
24 “Starting with Samuel, every
prophet spoke about what is happening today. 25 You are the children of
those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your
ancestors. For God said to Abraham, ‘Through your descendants[f]
all the families on earth will be blessed.’ 26 When God raised up his
servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by
turning each of you back from your sinful ways.”
