Rachel Workman: I
am writing to God’s chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces
of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. 2 God the Father knew you
and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have
obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. I love these
verses. It's hard to imagine that we are chosen by God. Before we are even
thought about we were chosen long ago by God to be holy. We are set aside from
the world and dedicated to God through his Spirit. Wow and all this with him
knowing what a sinner I really am.
May God give you more and more grace and peace.
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is something I need to be saying every day. I fail miserably at giving God the praise and glory that he truly deserves. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Thank you Jesus for dying for someone as unworthy as me. May I never forget what it truly means. Now we live with great expectation, 4 and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. I love this promise. We have a priceless inheritance beyond the reach of change and decay. Stop and think about that for a minute. In a world that is changing every day I almost can't imagine something that is beyond change. 5 And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. Faith, faith and more faith. What does God require from us? Faith. Through our faith God is protecting us until our salvation. I want God's protection but at times my faith is lacking. I do well at the easy things but the things that are closer to me I lack in.
6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. 7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. I think I could write a book on just these verses. Recently I have resented some of my trails but I can see that I need to reevaluate my heart. At times they do feel like fire but I see that if I remain faithful I will receive much praise and glory and honor. None of which I deserve. It's so hard to fathom with my human brain how much God truly loves us.
8 You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. 9 The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls. Thank you Jesus for your love and your willing sacrifice. I don't deserve it but I won't reject it.
10 This salvation was something even the prophets wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you. 11 They wondered what time or situation the Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance about Christ’s suffering and his great glory afterward.
12 They were told that their messages were not for themselves, but for you. And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen. I can't imagine what that must have been like.
May God give you more and more grace and peace.

John Burnett: 1 Peter, an
apostle of Jesus Christ,
To
those who reside as aliens, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia,
Asia, and Bithynia, who are chosen 2 according to the
foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, [a]to obey Jesus Christ and be
sprinkled with His blood: May grace and peace [b]be yours in the fullest
measure. The amount of amazing grace it took for him to choose me when
he had foreknowledge of everything I was going to do is amazing. The
sanctifying work of the Spirit is the sign of someone who is saved. Jesus
said that narrow is the road and few will enter through the gate. The
church is full of people who say Lord Lord but because they don’t have the
Spirit, Jesus did not know them.
3 Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great
mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection
of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an
inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away,
reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are protected by the power of
God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. I
am so ready for Him to reveal himself in these last times. 6 In
this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you
have been distressed by various [c]trials, 7 so
that the [d]proof of your faith Trials
we face are proof that we belong to Him, being more precious than
gold which [e]is perishable, even though
tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the
revelation of Jesus Christ; 8 and though you have not seen Him,
you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you
greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and [f]full of glory, 9 obtaining
as the outcome of your faith the salvation of [g]your souls. The promises
in these verses are too good to be true but because He is Truth and the only
one worthy of placing our faith in we can love, believe and glory in Him.
10 As
to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come
to you made careful searches and inquiries, 11 [h]seeking to know what person
or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the
sufferings of Christ and the glories [i]to follow. Many
believe that the Holy Spirit came on the scene at Pentecost, but this verse
clearly states that He was working in the Prophets in the OT. 12 It
was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these
things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the
gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long
to [j]look.

Krista Cook: 1 This letter is from Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ.
I am writing to God’s chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia,
- we, too, are God's chosen and if we are living like His word tells us to, we will also be living as foreigners
Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia.[a] 2 God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
- thankful we can be cleansed and washed in His blood through baptism
May God give you more and more grace and peace.
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, 4 and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
- we have an inheritance waiting for us but we must continue to live faithfully. That inheritance can be taken away - don't take it for granted.
5 And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
6 So be truly glad.[b] There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. 7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold.
- love this comparison!
So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
8 You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. 9 The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.

Mike Grimm: I am writing to God’s
chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia,
Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. This
letter is addressed to “God’s chosen people” or to the Jewish Christians
scattered throughout the world as a result of persecution against believers in
and around Jerusalem. The first believers and leaders of the early church were
Jews. When they became Christians, they did not give up their Jewish heritage.
Persecution didn’t stop the spread of the gospel, instead, persecution served
as a way to introduce the Good News to the whole empire. 2 God the Father knew you and chose you long
ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and
have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. At one time, only the nation of Israel could claim to be
God’s chosen people, but through Christ, all believers – Jews and Gentiles –
belong to God. Our salvation and security rest in the free and merciful choice
of the almighty God; no trials or persecution can take away the eternal life He
gives to those who believe in Him.
This verse mentions all three
members of the Trinity – God the Father, God the son (Jesus the Christ), and
God the Holy Spirit. All members of the Trinity work to bring about our
salvation. The Father chose us before we chose Him (Ephesians 1:4). Jesus
Christ the son died for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:6-10). The
Holy Spirit brings us the benefits of salvation and sets us apart (sanctifies
us) for God’s service (2 Thessalonians 2:13).
May God give you more
and more grace and peace.
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because
God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, The term born again refers to spiritual birth
(regeneration) – the Holy Spirit’s act of bringing believers to God’s family. 4 and we have a priceless
inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled,
beyond the reach of change and decay. 5 And through your faith,
God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is
ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. God will help us remain true to our faith through whatever
difficult times we must face. The “last day” is the judgment day of Christ
described in Romans 14:10 and Revelation 20:11-15. We may have to endure
trials, persecution, or violent death, but our souls cannot be harmed IF we
have accepted Christ’s gift of salvation. We know we will receive the promised
rewards
6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead,
even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. 7 These
trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests
and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So
when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much
praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the
whole world.
8 You love him even though you have never seen
him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a
glorious, inexpressible joy. 9 The reward for trusting him will
be the salvation of your souls. We
do not need a picture of Jesus to love Him. We do not rely on some artist
conception of Him to appreciate what He has done for us. However, we cannot love
someone unless we have a clear conception of who that person is. We must know a
person before we can love him or her properly.
“Beloved, let us love one another,
for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who
does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was
manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world,
that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but
that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (1 John 4: 7-10)
To know Him is to love Him; to know
Him better is to love Him better.
10 This salvation was something even the prophets
wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation
prepared for you. 11 They wondered what time or situation the
Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance
about Christ’s suffering and his great glory afterward. The Spirit of Christ is another name for the Holy Spirit.
Before Jesus left His ministry on earth to return to heaven, He promised to
send the Holy Spirit, the Counselor, to teach, help, and guide His followers
(John 14:15-17, 26; 16:7). The Holy Spirit would tell them all about Jesus and
reveal His glory (John 15:26; 16:14). The Old Testament prophets, writing under
the Holy Spirit’s inspiration (2 Peter 1:20, 21), described the coming of the
Messiah. The New Testament apostles, through the inspiration of the same
Spirit, preached the crucified and risen Lord.
