Psalm 34:11-22

Rachel Workman: 11 Come, my children, and listen to me,
    and I will teach you to fear the Lord.
12 Does anyone want to live a life
    that is long and prosperous?
13 Then keep your tongue from speaking evil
    and your lips from telling lies!
14 Turn away from evil and do good.
    Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

Search for peace and work to maintain it. Keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Being in a small town I see this at work more than most. People live to stir the pot and create drama out of someone's pain. Why? Wouldn't that energy be better spend doing something else? Anything else really.
15 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right;
    his ears are open to their cries for help.
16 But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil;
    he will erase their memory from the earth.
17 The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help.
    He rescues them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;
    he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
19 The righteous person faces many troubles,
    but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.
20 For the Lord protects the bones of the righteous;
    not one of them is broken!
I love these verses. Verse 19 stands out to me. The righteous person faces many troubles. It's not the other way around. Being righteous doesn't make you exempt from troubles.
21 Calamity will surely destroy the wicked,
    and those who hate the righteous will be punished.
22 But the Lord will redeem those who serve him.
    No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
Verse 22 is beautiful. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. Thank you Jesus for the cross and allowing us to be able to take refuge in you.

John Burnett:  11 Come, you children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Who is the man who desires life
And loves length of days that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil
And your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil and do good;
Seek peace and pursue it.  Sounds like David is teaching his children about the fear of the LORD.  Our Children, unfortunately, don’t always follow the teaching we give them.  David’s didn’t either although Solomon did for the most part.
15 The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous
And His ears are open to their cry.
16 The face of the Lord is against evildoers,
To cut off the memory of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry, and the Lord hears
And delivers them out of all their troubles.
18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are [a]crushed in spirit.  No one can snatch us out of His hands.  He will deliver us when we turn to him for deliverance.
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the Lord delivers him out of them all.  Philippians says that we will suffer for Christ’s sake but he will deliver us out of those afflictions.
20 He keeps all his bones,
Not one of them is broken.
21 Evil shall slay the wicked,  They are basically killing themselves.
And those who hate the righteous will be [b]condemned.
22 The Lord redeems the soul of His servants,
And none of those who take refuge in Him will be [c]condemned.  What a Blessed promise we have in this verse.  Come quickly LORD Jesus.
