Rachel Workman: 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the
field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon
in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God
cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the
fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[e] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

I have to say reading this was not easy. Why
do you have so little faith? That's me. # 32 really hits home. These things
dominate the thoughts of the unbeliever. I'm not an unbeliever. So why do I
worry about the things I need, knowing God has already planned to provide them
for me. Shame on me.

John
Burnett: 28 And why are you worried about
clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do
they spin, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his
glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so
clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown
into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? God provides for the ungodly, how much more will He provide
for those who He has paid for with His Son’s blood. You of little faith!
31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will
we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 For the
Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you
need all these things. 33 But [a]seek first [b]His kingdom and His
righteousness, and all these things will be [c]added to you. This has been true throughout my life. When money was
tight, many times the first thing people stop doing is tithing. I did
this once and we never could get our heads back above water. When we
started our tithing again, He provided more than what we needed.
34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow
will [d]care for itself. [e]Each day has enough trouble
of its own.

This is something I know
to be true, as he always takes care of me, but not worrying is very hard for
me. I need to work harder on this one!

Allen Michaels: 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the
flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I
tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of
these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field,
which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more
clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying,
‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For
the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you
need them. But you, who have knowledge of your
Father in heaven; who know that He will provide for your needs, should not be
anxious. Seek first His kingdom; seek first to be righteous, and to become
interested in His favor, and all necessary things will be added to you. He has
control over all things, and He can give you what you need. He will give you
what he deems best for you. 33 But seek first his
kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as
well. To “seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness” means to turn to God first for help, to fill your thoughts with
his desires, to take his character for your pattern, and to serve and obey him
in everything. What is really important to you? People, objects, goals, and
other desires all compete for priority. Any of these can quickly bump God out
of first place if you don’t actively choose to give him first place in every
area of your life. 34 Therefore
do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has
enough trouble of its own. Planning for tomorrow is
time well spent: worrying about tomorrow is time wasted. Sometimes it’s
difficult to tell the difference. Careful planning is thinking ahead about
goals, steps, and schedules, and trusting in God’s guidance. When done well,
planning can help alleviate worry. Worriers, by contrast, are consumed by fear
and find it difficult to trust God. They let their plans interfere with their
relationship with God. Don’t let worries about tomorrow affect your
relationship with God today.
