Galatians 1:1-5

Rachel Workman: 1 This letter is from Paul, an apostle. I was not appointed by any group of people or any human authority, but by Jesus Christ himself and by God the Father, who raised Jesus from the dead.

All the brothers and sisters[a] here join me in sending this letter to the churches of Galatia.

May God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ[b] give you grace and peace. Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.

When we question why bad things happen, remember this, the world we live in is evil. It was true then and it's true now.

John Burnett:  Paul, an apostle (not sent from men nor through the agency of man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead), and all the brethren who are with me,

To the churches of Galatia:

Grace to you and peace from [a]God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil [b]age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forevermore. Amen.  As with every letter you write, there is usually a salutation or a "wishing you well" statement.  In verses, 3-5, Paul is identifying himself and the Galatians he is writing to as born again believers who will be rescued from this present evil age.  We are still in the same evil age that Paul was referring to then and those who Jesus Christ gave Himself for, will be rescued (raptured or resurrected) from this evil age.  This is God's will for those who belong to Jesus Christ to the Glory of God the Father.  Unifying the writer and those whom he is writing to and to glorify God was Paul's purpose for such a great greeting.

Tomorrow’s reading for Galatians 1:6-10

I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ.[c] You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who deliberately twist the truth concerning Christ.

Let God’s curse fall on anyone, including us or even an angel from heaven, who preaches a different kind of Good News than the one we preached to you. I say again what we have said before: If anyone preaches any other Good News than the one you welcomed, let that person be cursed.

10 Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.
