Rachel Workman: 16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
May the Spirit outweigh my sinful nature. I want to do what the Spirit wants. I know I allow my sinful nature to have way too much leeway in my life. As long as the Spirit is in me it's usually not hard to tell what is my sinful nature and what is the Spirit leading me. Those instant convictions usually tell the story pretty well.

John Burnett: 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. Our flesh fights against the Holy Spirit, but glory be to God that the Holy Spirit wins out in the end and we are no longer slaves to the law or our sin. Verse 18 makes it pretty clear about the Spirit and the law. The opposite is also equally true and the consequences are severe. If you are not led by the Spirit, you are under the law and condemned by the law. How do you know you are being led by the Spirit? You know by how you see yourself. If you think you have any good in you, the Holy Spirit has not opened your eyes nor is He leading you. To know you are being led by the Spirit, you see yourself for who you really are. Romans 3:10-12 says there is none that do good, no not one. We are a part of the "none", and only after the Holy Spirit opens our eyes to our sin, does He grants us repentance and saving faith in Jesus Christ through the gift of His amazing grace.

Monday's reading for Galatians 5:19-21
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
