Rachel Workman: 29 Jesus returned to the Sea of Galilee and climbed a hill and sat down. 30 A vast crowd brought to him people who were lame, blind, crippled, those who couldn’t speak, and many others. They laid them before Jesus, and he healed them all. 31 The crowd was amazed! Those who hadn’t been able to speak were talking, the crippled were made well, the lame were walking, and the blind could see again! And they praised the God of Israel. Can you even imagine?
32 Then Jesus called his disciples and
told them, “I feel sorry for these people. They have been here with me for
three days, and they have nothing left to eat. I don’t want to send them away
hungry, or they will faint along the way.”
33 The disciples replied, “Where would we
get enough food here in the wilderness for such a huge crowd?”
34 Jesus asked, “How much bread do you
have?”
They replied, “Seven loaves, and a few small
fish.”
35 So Jesus told all the people to sit
down on the ground. 36 Then he took the seven loaves and the
fish, thanked God for them, and broke them into pieces. He gave them to the
disciples, who distributed the food to the crowd.
37 They all ate as much as they wanted.
Afterward, the disciples picked up seven large baskets of leftover food. 38 There
were 4,000 men who were fed that day, in addition to all the women and
children. 39 Then Jesus sent the people home, and he got into a
boat and crossed over to the region of Magadan. I love this, it reminds of
how little we give Jesus and how large he multiplies it.

John
Burnett: 29 Departing from there, Jesus went along
by the Sea of Galilee, and having gone up on the mountain, He was sitting
there. 30 And [a]large crowds came to Him,
bringing with them those who were lame, crippled, blind, mute, and many
others, and they laid them down at His feet; and He healed them. 31 So
the crowd marveled as they saw the mute speaking, the crippled [b]restored, and the lame
walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel. This, like all the other healings Jesus did, is foreshadowing
of the healing he does for us. Spiritually, he heals us and cleanses us
of our sins. Physically, he will give us a new perfect body when we are
resurrected or raptured.
Four Thousand Fed
32 And Jesus called His disciples to Him,
and said, “I feel compassion for the [c]people, because they [d]have remained with Me now
three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry,
for they might faint on the way.” 33 The disciples *said to
Him, “Where would we get so many loaves in this desolate place to
satisfy such a large crowd?” 34 And Jesus *said to them, “How
many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few small fish.” 35 And
He directed the [e]people to [f]sit down on the ground; 36 and
He took the seven loaves and the fish; and giving thanks, He broke them and started
giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
37 And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what
was left over of the broken pieces, seven large baskets full. 38 And
those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. Like the crowds here, Jesus is sufficient to meet our
spiritual needs but always gives an abundance more than we need.
39 And sending away the crowds, Jesus got
into the boat and came to the region of Magadan.

Allen Michaels: Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand
29 Jesus left there and went along the
Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. 30 Great
crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and
many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. 31 The
people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the
lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.
32 Jesus called his disciples to him and
said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three
days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they
may collapse on the way.”
33 His disciples answered, “Where could
we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?”
34 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus
asked.
“Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.”
35 He told the crowd to sit down on the
ground. 36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when
he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in
turn to the people. 37 They all ate and were satisfied.
Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were
left over. 38 The number of those who ate was four thousand
men, besides women and children. 39 After Jesus had sent the
crowd away, he got into the boat and went to the vicinity of Magadan.
Whatever our case is, the only way
to find ease and relief is to lay it at Christ's feet, to submit it to him, and
refer it to his disposal. Those who would have spiritual healing from Christ
must be ruled as he pleases. See what work sin has made; what various diseases
human bodies are subject to. Here were such diseases that even today, we cannot
imagine and could neither guess the cause nor the cure of, yet these were subject
to the command of Christ. The spiritual cures that Christ works are wonderful.
When blind souls are made to see by faith, the dumb to speak in prayer, the
maimed and the lame to walk in holy obedience, it is to be wondered at. His
power was also shown to the multitude, in the plentiful provision he made for
them: the manner is much the same as before. All did eat, and were filled.
Those whom Christ feeds, he fills. With Christ there is bread enough, and to
spare; supplies of grace for more than seek it, and for those that seek for
more. Christ sent away the people. Though he had fed them twice, they must not
look for miracles to find their daily bread. Let them go home to their callings
and their own tables. Lord, increase our faith, and pardon our unbelief,
teaching us to live upon thy fullness and bounty, for all things pertaining to
this life, and that which is to come.
