16 Then
Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him. 17 The
women living there said, “Naomi has a son!” And they named him Obed. He was the
father of Jesse, the father of David. What might seem like a curse at the
time God has a way of turning into a blessing.

John Burnett:
13 So
Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When he made love to her, the Lord enabled her to
conceive, and she gave birth to a son.14 The women said to Naomi:
“Praise be to the Lord, who
this day has not left you without a guardian-redeemer. May he become
famous throughout Israel! 15 He
will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your
daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven
sons, has given him birth.”
16 Then
Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him. 17 The women living there said,
“Naomi has a son!” And they named him Obed. He was the father of
Jesse, the father of David. Ruth, being called better than
seven sons, is the ultimate compliment to a woman during these times.
Boaz and Ruth were the great-grandparents of the David, and of course our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ, was born in the city of David, Bethlehem, because he
was a descendent of David. This fulfills the Davidic Covenant, where God
proclaimed through Nathan the Prophet,
16 Your house and
your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established
forever. 17 In accordance with all these words and all this vision, so
Nathan spoke to David.
Jesus Christ, an descendent of David,
will reign on His throne forever. Come quickly Lord Jesus.
The Genealogy of David
18 This,
then, is the family line of Perez:
Perez was the father of Hezron,
19 Hezron the father of Ram,
Ram the father of Amminadab,
20 Amminadab the father of Nahshon,
Nahshon the father of Salmon,[a]
21 Salmon the father of Boaz,
Boaz the father of Obed,
22 Obed the father of Jesse,
and Jesse the father of David.

Tomorrow’s reading for Proverbs 6:1-5
or agreed to guarantee the debt of a stranger—
2 if you have trapped yourself by your agreement
and are caught by what you said—
3 follow my advice and save yourself,
for you have placed yourself at your friend’s mercy.
Now swallow your pride;
go and beg to have your name erased.
4 Don’t put it off; do it now!
Don’t rest until you do.
5 Save yourself like a gazelle escaping from a hunter,
like a bird fleeing from a net.
