Ruth 4:13-22

Rachel Workman: ¹³ So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When he made love to her, the Lord enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son. ¹⁴ The women said to Naomi: “Praise be to the Lord, who this day has not left you without a guardian-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel! ¹⁵ He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth.”

¹⁶ Then Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him. ¹⁷ The women living there said, “Naomi has a son!” And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David. What might seem like a curse at the time God has a way of turning into a blessing.

¹⁶ Then Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him. ¹⁷ The women living there said, “Naomi has a son!” And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.  Ruth, being called better than seven sons, is the ultimate compliment to a woman during these times.  Boaz and Ruth were the great-grandparents of the David, and of course our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was born in the city of David, Bethlehem, because he was a descendent of David.  This fulfills the Davidic Covenant, where God proclaimed through Nathan the Prophet,

¹⁶ Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever. ¹⁷ In accordance with all these words and all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.

Jesus Christ, an descendent of David, will reign on His throne forever.  Come quickly Lord Jesus.

¹⁹ Hezron the father of Ram,

Ram the father of Amminadab,

²⁰ Amminadab the father of Nahshon,

Nahshon the father of Salmon,^[a]

²¹ Salmon the father of Boaz,

Boaz the father of Obed,

²² Obed the father of Jesse,

and Jesse the father of David.

Tomorrow’s reading for Proverbs 6:1-5

My child,^[a] if you have put up security for a friend’s debt
    or agreed to guarantee the debt of a stranger—
² if you have trapped yourself by your agreement
    and are caught by what you said—
³ follow my advice and save yourself,
    for you have placed yourself at your friend’s mercy.
Now swallow your pride;
    go and beg to have your name erased.
⁴ Don’t put it off; do it now!
    Don’t rest until you do.
