Rachel Workman: 46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 As for everyone who comes
to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they
are like. 48 They are like a man
building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a
flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it
was well built. 49 But the one who hears my
words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on
the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it
collapsed and its destruction was complete.” I've seen this so many times in
my life to not believe it. I promise you, if you have a solid foundation in
Christ there isn't much that can shake you.

John Burnett:
46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I

into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid

is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment
the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was
complete.” I wish I could say I was a wise builder all the time. There
are times when when I don’t do what the Lord tells us to do, but I have
repented of those sins and put my trust in the rock of my salvation.

Obeying
God is like building a house on a strong, solid foundation that stands firm
when storms come. When life is calm and trouble free, our foundations really
don’t seem to matter. But when crises come, our foundations are tested. We must
be sure that our lives are built on the solid foundation of knowing and
trusting Jesus the Christ.
Why
would someone build a house without a good solid foundation? Maybe because they
haven’t heard about the violent storm coming, or because they have discounted
the reports, or for some reason they think disaster can’t happen to them.
Whatever their reason, those with no foundation are shortsighted, and they will
be very sorry. What are my reasons for listening but not obeying? I ask myself
that every day.

Tomorrow’s reading for Luke 7:1-10
7 When
Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered
Capernaum. 2 There a centurion’s servant, whom his master
valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3 The centurion heard
of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal
his servant. 4 When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly
with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5 because he
loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” 6 So Jesus went
with them.
He
was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him:
“Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my
roof. 7 That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to
come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8 For
I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one,
‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do
this,’ and he does it.”
9 When
Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him,
he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” 10 Then
the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
