Rachel Workman: 44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” This isn't to say that Jesus forgave this woman of her sins because of her actions but she was forgiven because of her belief.
48 Then
Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49 The other
guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Jesus
said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

John Burnett:
44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you

my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been
forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little
loves little.” I love my Savior a lot because I have been
forgiven a lot. More than I can even fathom or come close to
counting. One of my sins is that I don’t show Him like this woman shows
Him and He so richly deserves.
48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are
forgiven.”
49 The other guests began to say among themselves,
“Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has
saved you; go in peace.”

response to forgiveness and the appropriate consequence of faith. But only
those who realize the depth of their sin can appreciate the complete
forgiveness God offers them. Jesus has rescued all of his followers, whether
they were once extremely wicked or conventionally good, from eternal death. We
must ask ourselves if we appreciate the wideness of God’s mercy. Are we
grateful for his forgiveness?
48 Then Jesus said to
her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49 The other guests

50 Jesus said to the

Tomorrow’s reading for Luke 8:1-8
8 After
this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming
the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, 2 and
also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called
Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the
wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others.
These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
4 While
a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after
town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his
seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled
on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and
when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other
seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still
other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times
more than was sown.”
