Luke 23:44-46

Rachel Workman: 44 By this time it was about noon, and darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. 45 The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn down the middle. 46 Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!”[h] And with those words he breathed his last.

For three hours, darkness fell upon the earth. That is just the beginning of the darkness that has fallen upon humankind since the crucifixion of Christ.

John Burnett:  44 It was now about [a]the sixth hour, and darkness [b]fell over the whole land until [c]the ninth hour, 45 [d]because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn [e]in two. 46 And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.  Our sin put him on the cross but it was God the Father’s will that Jesus was following as He stepped in and took our place so that we could be saved through His righteousness imputed to us through God’s grace and mercy.
