Rachel Workman: 50 Now there was a good and righteous
man named Joseph. He was a member of the Jewish high council, 51 but he had not agreed
with the decision and actions of the other religious leaders. He was from the
town of Arimathea in Judea, and he was waiting for the Kingdom of God to come.
52 He went to Pilate and
asked for Jesus’ body. 53 Then he took the body
down from the cross and wrapped it in a long sheet of linen cloth and laid it in
a new tomb that had been carved out of rock. 54 This was done late on
Friday afternoon, the day of preparation,[l]
as the Sabbath was about to begin.
This reads easy enough but I can
imagine that Joseph was given a very hard time for going against the high
council. There is no telling what he suffered or his family suffered as a
result. How much suffering would I be willing to endure for Christ?

John Burnett: 50 And a man named Joseph,
who was a member of the Council, a good and righteous man 51 (he
had not consented to their plan and action), a man from
Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was waiting for the kingdom of God; 52 this
man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 And
he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut
into the rock, where no one had ever lain. 54 It
was the [a]preparation day, and the Sabbath was
about to [b]begin. This could not have been
easy to do. Jesus’s body had just suffered the wrath of God that every
sinner on earth deserves.
