Rachel Workman: 19 “What things?” Jesus asked.
“The things that happened to Jesus, the man
from Nazareth,” they said. “He was a prophet who did powerful miracles, and he
was a mighty teacher in the eyes of God and all the people. 20 But
our leading priests and other religious leaders handed him over to be condemned
to death, and they crucified him. 21 We had hoped he was the
Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. This all happened three days ago. He
didn't know who Jesus really was. Yet he was still sad.
22 “Then some women from our group of his
followers were at his tomb early this morning, and they came back with an
amazing report. 23 They said his body was missing, and they had
seen angels who told them Jesus is alive! 24 Some of our men
ran out to see, and sure enough, his body was gone, just as the women had said.

John Burnett: 19 And He said to
them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “The things
about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word
in the sight of God and all the people, 20 and how
the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death,
and crucified Him.21 But we were hoping that it was He
who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third
day since these things happened.22 But also some women
among us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and
did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of
angels who said that He was alive. 24 Some of those
who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also
had said; but Him they did not see.”
Verse 21 shows that Israel
was looking for a political redeemer. They had it backwards. Jesus
came to earth as a human, lived a perfect life, died and rose again so He could
redeem those who belong to him. He did this first. Redemption of
Israel was something that would take place in the future as revealed to John
and written in Revelation. In a week, the Sanhedrin will dedicate the
stone used to make the altar for the Third Temple, which means they are
preparing to build the Third Temple. This is important because the Temple
will be the site of the abomination of desolation when the Antichrist enters
the Temple and declares that he is god. This event takes place 3 ½ years
before Jesus returns and destroys Antichrist’s army and then restores
Israel. With the UN passing multiple anti-Semitic resolutions this past
week, things are starting to speed up, just like birth pains speed up and get
closer together as the baby’s birth gets closer.
Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Today’s reading for Luke 24:25-27
25 Then Jesus said to them, “You foolish
people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the
Scriptures. 26 Wasn’t it clearly predicted that the Messiah
would have to suffer all these things before entering his glory?” 27 Then
Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining
from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
