Rachel Workman: 41 Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he ate it as they watched.
44 Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. 47 It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations,[f] beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ 48 You are witnesses of all these things.
49 “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”
What a precious gift our father gave us. So much wrapped up in one act.

John Burnett: 41 While they still [a]could not believe it because
of their joy and amazement, He said to them, “Have you anything here to
eat?” 42 They gave Him a piece of a broiled
fish; 43 and He took it and ate it before
them.
44 Now He said to them, “These are My words which I
spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written
about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be
fulfilled.” 45 Then He opened their [b]minds to understand the
Scriptures, 46 and He said to them, “Thus it
is written, that the [c]Christ would suffer and rise
again from the dead the third day, 47 and
that repentance [d]for forgiveness of sins would be
proclaimed [e]in His name to all the nations,
beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses
of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending
forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city
until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Jesus eating fish shows He
was alive and hungry. God’s sovereignty is on display in verses 44-49 as
prophesy was being fulfilled before their very eyes. Eye Witnesses that
He would send out after they are clothed with power from on high (Jesus was
about to give them the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost).
The same way He opened their
minds to understand the scripture, He opens our eyes so that we can see our sin
and understand our need for Him as our Savior. If you think you are a good
person, your eyes haven’t been opened yet because there is no one good (Romans
3:10-12). When He opens your eyes, He grants you the repentance for
forgiveness of sins, grants you a saving faith, imputes His righteousness to
your record, justifies you before the Father, He gives you the Holy Spirit to
help you in your process of sanctification, He adopts you as a son or daughter
and we become co-heirs and co-rulers with Christ in Heaven for eternity.
He gives us all of these the things because of His amazing grace

Tomorrow’s reading for Luke 24:50-53
50 Then Jesus led them to Bethany,
and lifting his hands to heaven, he blessed them. 51 While he was blessing
them, he left them and was taken up to heaven. 52 So they worshiped him and
then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy. 53 And they spent all of
their time in the Temple, praising God.
