Ecclesiastes 5:1-3

Rachel Workman: [a]As you enter the house of God, keep your ears open and your mouth shut. It is evil to make mindless offerings to God. 2 [b]Don’t make rash promises, and don’t be hasty in bringing matters before God. After all, God is in heaven, and you are here on earth. So let your words be few.
Too much activity gives you restless dreams; too many words make you a fool.

No doubt God is speaking to me today. Slow down, slow down.

John Burnett:  [a]Guard your steps as you go to the house of God and draw near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools; for they do not know they are doing evil. [b]Do not be hasty [c]in word or [d]impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few. For the dream comes through much [e]effort and the voice of a fool through many words.  This passage took a sledgehammer to my toes.  When I remember to pray for something, it is often in a hasty or impulsive manner and I would not be surprised if God was just as flippant in His response to my prayers.  I really needed to hear these verses today as my life has been hectic lately and I needed this reminder to take my time and give God the due reverence only He deserves.  Thank you God for your patience with me when I am hasty and impulsive.

Monday’s reading for Ecclesiastes 5:4-7

When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him. It is better to say nothing than to make a promise and not keep it. Don’t let your mouth make you sin. And don’t defend yourself by telling the Temple messenger that the promise you made was a mistake. That would make God angry, and he might wipe out everything you have achieved.
Talk is cheap, like daydreams and other useless activities. Fear God instead.
