Ecclesiastes 7:5-9

Rachel Workman: Better to be criticized by a wise person
    than to be praised by a fool.
A fool’s laughter is quickly gone,

    like thorns crackling in a fire.
    This also is meaningless.
Extortion turns wise people into fools,
    and bribes corrupt the heart.
Finishing is better than starting.
    Patience is better than pride.
Control your temper,
    for anger labels you a fool.

When I read this all I can think is yep, dead on. I still struggle with a few of these. I'm working on it. But I can stand to work a little harder.

John Burnett:  It is better to listen to the rebuke of a wise man
Than for one to listen to the song of fools.
This is why kids and the world in general is the way it is today.  I would take it one step further and add that we should be listening to the rebuke of God as well.  He will cause us to have trials as a rebuke or punishment when we begin to wander so we will come back to relying on Him.
For as the [a]crackling of thorn bushes under a pot,
So is the laughter of the fool;
And this too is futility.
For oppression makes a wise man mad,
And a bribe [b]corrupts the heart.
The end of a matter is better than its beginning;
Patience of spirit is better than haughtiness of spirit.
The first thing God hates listed in Proverbs 6 is haughty eyes so if you want to be on God’s bad side, this is the first way to get there.
Do not be [c]eager in your heart to be angry,
For anger resides in the bosom of fools.
Anger is one of my most repetitive sins.  I am not eager to be angry as it says here, it just happens and in most cases it is not justified.

Tomorrow’s reading for Ecclesiastes 7:10-14

Don’t long for “the good old days.”
    This is not wise.
11 Wisdom is even better when you have money.
    Both are a benefit as you go through life.
12 Wisdom and money can get you almost anything,
    but only wisdom can save your life.
13 Accept the way God does things,
    for who can straighten what he has made crooked?
14 Enjoy prosperity while you can,
    but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God.
    Remember that nothing is certain in this life.
