Isaiah 1:24-31

Rachel Workman: Then I will give you good judges again
    and wise counselors like you used to have.
Then Jerusalem will again be called the Home of Justice
    and the Faithful City.”
27 Zion will be restored by justice;
    those who repent will be revived by righteousness.
28 But rebels and sinners will be completely destroyed,

    and those who desert the Lord will be consumed.
29 You will be ashamed of your idol worship
    in groves of sacred oaks.
You will blush because you worshiped
    in gardens dedicated to idols.
30 You will be like a great tree with withered leaves,

    like a garden without water.
31 The strongest among you will disappear like straw;
    their evil deeds will be the spark that sets it on fire.
They and their evil works will burn up together,
    and no one will be able to put out the fire.

Strong words. Who can hide from our Lord? And who can prevent what he's already spoken? No one, and I think we can relate that to our lives. The thief only comes to steal, kill and destroy. Don't allow what God has already spoken to us to be taken away. Because what he has already spoken no on will be able to stop it. The things spoken for Christians are good things. But if we worship idols, if we live our lives full and sin and evil. Well... then I guess we're like Jerusalem. They and their evil works will burn up together, and no one will be able to put out the fire.

John Burnett:  24 Therefore the Lord declares,
    the Lord of hosts,
    the Mighty One of Israel:
“Ah, I will get relief from my enemies
    and avenge myself on my foes.
25 I will turn my hand against you
    and will smelt away your dross as with lye
    and remove all your alloy.
Not only will God destroy those who attack Israel but those who have not repented and put their trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior are foes of God as well.  We are all born this way, children of wrath, dead in our sins, and unless we are born again, God will turn His hand against those who don’t believe, and give them justice in eternal fire.
26 And I will restore your judges as at the first,
    and your counselors as at the beginning.
Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness,
    the faithful city.”
When Christ returns, He will set up His Eternal Kingdom in the New Jerusalem.
27 Zion shall be redeemed by justice,
    and those in her who repent, by righteousness.
God is just but also merciful to those who repent and receive Christ’s righteousness.
28 But rebels and sinners shall be broken together,
    and those who forsake the Lord shall be consumed.
29 For they[a] shall be ashamed of the oaks
    that you desired;
and you shall blush for the gardens
    that you have chosen.
30 For you shall be like an oak
    whose leaf withers,
    and like a garden without water.
31 And the strong shall become tinder,
    and his work a spark,
and both of them shall burn together,
    with none to quench them.
Prophesy of what is to come when Christ returns.  He will judge those who rebelled and sinned against Him but did not repent.  They will be thrown into the lake of fire and their torment will never be quenched.

The enemies and rebels spoken of in verse 24 and 28 are currently surrounding Israel and shooting rockets at Israel on almost a daily basis.  Many Prophesy teachers believe it will not be long until Christ returns and Israel is preparing to rebuild the third temple for this reason.  Thankfully, by God’s grace, those who have had their eyes opened to their sinfulness and been born again will be taken out before God pours out His wrath on this earth.

Tomorrow’s reading for Isaiah 2:1-5

2 This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
In the last days
the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established
    as the highest of the mountains;
it will be exalted above the hills,
    and all nations will stream to it.
Many peoples will come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
    to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
    so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law will go out from Zion,
    the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
He will judge between the nations
    and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
    and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
    nor will they train for war anymore.
Come, descendants of Jacob,
    let us walk in the light of the Lord.
