Isaiah 5:5-7

Rachel Workman: Now let me tell you
    what I will do to my vineyard:
I will tear down its hedges
    and let it be destroyed.
I will break down its walls
    and let the animals trample it.
I will make it a wild place

    where the vines are not pruned and the ground is not hoed,
    a place overgrown with briers and thorns.
I will command the clouds
    to drop no rain on it.
The nation of Israel is the vineyard of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
    The people of Judah are his pleasant garden.
He expected a crop of justice,
    but instead he found oppression.
He expected to find righteousness,
    but instead he heard cries of violence.

Again, I see similarity in where we are right now. We are absolutely a place overgrown with briers and thorns. He expected a crop of justice, but instead he found oppression. He expected to find righteousness, but instead he heard cries of violence.

John Burnett:  And now I will tell you
    what I will do to my vineyard.
I will remove its hedge,
    and it shall be devoured;[a]
I will break down its wall,
    and it shall be trampled down.
I will make it a waste;
    it shall not be pruned or hoed,
Israel was overtaken by the Romans in 70 AD and the Jews were scattered.  Israel became a wasteland and it was not until 1948, that Israel became a nation again in its own homeland.  Today, Israel has farms, greenhouses, and orchards all over the country due to its agricultural innovation and God’s blessing.
    and briers and thorns shall grow up;
I will also command the clouds
    that they rain no rain upon it.
For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts
    is the house of Israel,
and the men of Judah
    are his pleasant planting;
and he looked for justice,
    but behold, bloodshed;[b]
for righteousness,
    but behold, an outcry![c

Christ will return and rule with justice and righteousness.  Unfortunately, much of Israel will suffer His wrath because they have not repented and put their trust in Jesus Christ, the Messiah.  I pray for Israel’s repentance.

Tomorrow’s reading for Isaiah 5:8-12

What sorrow for you who buy up house after house and field after field,
    until everyone is evicted and you live alone in the land.
But I have heard the Lord of Heaven’s Armies

    swear a solemn oath:
“Many houses will stand deserted;
    even beautiful mansions will be empty.
10 Ten acres[a] of vineyard will not produce even six gallons[b] of wine.
    Ten baskets of seed will yield only one basket[c] of grain.”
11 What sorrow for those who get up early in the morning
    looking for a drink of alcohol
and spend long evenings drinking wine
    to make themselves flaming drunk.
12 They furnish wine and lovely music at their grand parties—

    lyre and harp, tambourine and flute—
but they never think about the Lord
    or notice what he is doing.
