Ephesians 4:30-32

Rachel Workman: 30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own,[e] guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. I know I have brought plenty of sorrow on God's Holy Spirit.

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. If I'm being honest I can't remember the last time I felt I was tenderhearted towards those that I need to forgive.

John Burnett:  30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.  Any sin we commit grieves the Holy Spirit, but the ones listed here are the opposite of the characteristics listed in verse 32.  Paul is speaking to Christians but I know He is not limiting our forgiveness to just other Christians.  When we do not forgive and we hold grudges, we are saying that Christ’s death on the cross was not enough to pay for the person’s sins, who we are refusing to forgive.

Tomorrow’s reading for Ephesians 5:1-5.

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us[a] and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
