Psalm 25:1-10

Rachel Workman: O Lord, I give my life to you.
    I trust in you, my God!
Do not let me be disgraced,
    or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.
No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced,
    but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.

Show me the right path, O Lord;
    point out the road for me to follow.
Lead me by your truth and teach me,
    for you are the God who saves me.
    All day long I put my hope in you.
Remember, O Lord, your compassion and unfailing love,
    which you have shown from long ages past.
Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth.
    Remember me in the light of your unfailing love,
    for you are merciful, O Lord.
The Lord is good and does what is right;
    he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
He leads the humble in doing right,
    teaching them his way.
10 The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness
    all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.
I love this Psalm. Verse 7 really stands out to me. Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O Lord. What a great God we have that he is able to just forget our sins and not remember us as we really are. We will never overcome our sinful nature. How blessed are we that Jesus has overcame our sin for us.

John Burnett:  25 To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in You I trust,
Do not let me be ashamed;
Do not let my enemies exult over me.
Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed;
[a]Those who deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed.
Make me know Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
For You I wait all the day.
Remember, O Lord, Your compassion and Your lovingkindnesses,
For they have been [b]from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;  Or my current sins.  This one of the great promises we have when we belong to Him.  He only sees us through Christ colored glasses.
According to Your lovingkindness remember me,
For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord.
Good and upright is the Lord;
Therefore He instructs sinners in the way.
He leads the [c]humble in justice,
And He teaches the [d]humble His way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are lovingkindness and truth
To those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.  This verse could be used to confuse.  The truth is that His lovingkindness/grace is the only path and it is narrow in nature.

Allen Michaels:  In you, Lord my God,
    I put my trust.
I trust in you;
    do not let me be put to shame,
    nor let my enemies triumph over me.

Enemies are those who oppose not only us, but also God’s way of living. We can view temptations; money, success, prestige, or lust as our enemies. Anything that prevents us from doing God’s work is an enemy. But the greatest enemy of all is Satan. David asked God to keep his enemies from overcoming him because they opposed what God stood for. If his enemies succeeded, David feared that many would think that living for God was futile. David did not question his own faith; he knew that God would triumph. But he didn’t want his enemies’ success to be an obstacle to the faith of others. There were times when I would watch good Christian friends struggle with one trial after another and thought that either God wasn’t listening or “behind the scenes” these people were not really Christians. It really had me wondering quite a while about faith.

No one who hopes in you
    will ever be put to shame,
but shame will come on those
    who are treacherous without cause.

Show me your ways, Lord,
    teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
    for you are God my Savior,
    and my hope is in you all day long.

David expressed his desire for guidance. How do we receive God’s guidance? The first step is to want to be guided and to realize that God’s primary guidance system is in His Word, the Bible. If we read Psalm 119 it tells of the endless knowledge found in God’s Word. By constantly reading it and learning from it, we will gain the wisdom to perceive God’s direction for our lives. I have often demanded answers from God, but David asked for direction. It goes without saying that David was answered first. When we are willing to seek God, learn from His Word, and obey His commands, then will we receive His specific guidance.

Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love,
    for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth
    and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
    for you, Lord, are good.

Good and upright is the Lord;
    therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
He guides the humble in what is right
    and teaches them his way.
10 All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful
    toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.
11 For the sake of your name, Lord,
    forgive my iniquity, though it is great.

We are bombarded today with relentless appeals to go in various directions. Television alone pulls us in hundreds of directions. Numerous organizations, including Christian organizations, seek to motivate us to support a cause. Now add to that Facebook postings and the dozen of decisions we must make concerning our job, our family, our money, our society, and we become desperate for someone to show us the right way. If you find yourself pulled in several directions, remember that God teaches the humble His way.

I like Psalm 25. It teaches us that no matter how difficult our trials or what their cause, seek the Lord for His wisdom and trust Him to work for His glory and our good.
