Rachel Workman:
5 But because of
your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against
yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be
revealed. 6 God “will repay each person according to what they
have done.”[a]
7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor
and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8 But for those who
are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath
and anger. 9 There will be trouble and distress for every human
being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10 but
glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for
the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism.
The key word
here is unrepentant. I for one do not want to stand before God and experience
his wrath. I'll take the glory, honor and peace. I love how is says God does
not show favoritism. Us humans are really good at that.

John Burnett:
I’m catching up
26 For
this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women
exchanged the natural function for that which is [r]unnatural,27 and in the same way also the men
abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward
one another, men with men committing [s]indecent
acts and receiving in [t]their
own persons the due penalty of their error. And
this why the light house is lit up like a rainbow and some sick people think
they can go to any restroom they want.
28 And
just as they did not see fit [u]to
acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do
those things which are not proper, 29 being
filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder,
strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,30 slanderers, [v] haters
of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to
parents, 31 without
understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the
ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death,
they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who
practice them. You know God has turned America over to a depraved mind
when these verses don’t only describe those in the prison but does a pretty
good job of describing the two people running for President. The Holy
Spirit is slowly but surely being taken out of the way and I so look forward to
the day when He is taken out completely.
The Impartiality of God
2 Therefore
you have no excuse, [a]every
one of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you
condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2 And we know that the judgment of
God [b]rightly
falls upon those who practice such things.3 But do you suppose this, O
man, [c]when
you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself,
that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you think lightly
of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not
knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But [d]because
of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for
yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of
God, 6 who will render to each person according to his
deeds: 7 to
those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor
and immortality, eternal life; 8 but to those who
are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey
unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. 9 There will be tribulation
and distress [e]for
every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the
Greek, 10 but glory
and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also
to the Greek. 11 For there
is no partiality with God. Many of the Roman Christians Paul
is writing to were doing much of what was described in Romans 1, but they were
judging those who were still doing those things. Jesus Christ died for
those sins and he is the only one worthy of rendering judgement. We
shouldn’t judge people for sins we have committed ourselves. He also adds
some of the consequences for those who God has not lead to repentance.
Thank you God for opening my eyes and bestowing your grace on me.

Allen Michaels: 5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are
storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his
righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 God “will repay each
person according to what they have done.” 7 To those who by
persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give
eternal life. Paul says that those who patiently and
persistently do God’s will, find eternal life. He is not contradicting his
previous statement that salvation comes by faith alone (1:16, 17). We are not
saved by good deeds, but when we commit our lives fully to God, we want to
please him and do his will. As such, our good deeds are a grateful response to
what God has done, not a prerequisite to earning his grace. 8 But
for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there
will be wrath and anger. 9 There will be trouble and distress
for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10 but
glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for
the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism.
Although
God does not usually punish us immediately for sin, his eventual judgment is certain.
We don’t know exactly when it will happen, but we know that no one will escape
that final encounter with the Creator.

Tomorrow’s reading for Romans 2:12-16
12 All
who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin
under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not those
who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the
law who will be declared righteous. 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles,
who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a
law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They
show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their
consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them
and at other times even defending them.) 16 This will take
place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my
gospel declares.
