Rachel
Workman: 5 Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story:
“Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three
loaves of bread. You say to him, 6 ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a
visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ 7 And suppose he calls out from his
bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and
I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ 8 But I tell you this—though he won’t do
it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and
give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.[d]
I'm just going to keep on asking then. I've seen many times in my life where I've consistently prayed for something and God granted it. Maybe not exactly when I wanted it but at the right time.

John Burnett: 11 It happened that
while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of
His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his
disciples.” 2 And He said to them, “When you
pray, say:
‘Father, hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
3 ‘Give us each day our [c]daily bread.
4 ‘And forgive us our sins,
For we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.’” We do not pray as we should. First Jesus, acknowledges the father for who He is. Then He instructs them to ask God to meet their needs for daily bread and forgiveness of sins. Then we should ask for help in forgiving others and to help us prevent sin by not leading us to temptation.

5 Then He said to them, “Suppose one of you has a
friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three
loaves; 6 for a friend of mine has come to me from
a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; 7 and
from inside he answers and says, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been
shut and my children [e]and I are in bed; I cannot get up and
give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even
though he will not get up and give him anything because he is
his friend, yet because of his [f]persistence he will get up and give
him as much as he needs. Persistence is the key to prayer. Asking once, like the friend
above will get you nothing as approaching God in a quick, hurried fashion to
ask for something is not reverent of the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Why should he give us what we ask if it is for selfish wants versus
glorification of Him. God wants us to ask, pray, communicate with Him
continuously and He promises to give us what we ask according to His will
because He is good.

Pat Bell: 5 Then Jesus
said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say,
‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; 6 a friend of mine on a
journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ 7 And suppose the one
inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children
and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even though
he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of
your shameless audacity[e]
he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.
This can speak in so many ways! He may not give you
what you asked for but he will give you what you need.

Tomorrow’s reading for Luke 11:9-13
11 “You fathers—if your children ask[e] for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? 12 Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! 13 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
