Luke 11:9-13

Rachel Workman: “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
11 “You fathers—if your children ask[e] for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? 12 Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! 13 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

These verses can easily be taken out of context. All you have to do it ask and you will receive. If depends on what you're asking for. A new car? Probably not. Forgiveness? Yes. It also says If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him. “Jesus isn't speaking about material things here. When you seek Jesus, you will find him. If you knock on His door, he will open it.

John Burnett:  “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.  When we seek His face, His wisdom (through the Holy Spirit), and His forgiveness, we are given what we ask for.  This does not apply to worldly things.  We do have the promise that we will provide what we need, not what we want.  With our sinful natures, what we want is not good for us.
11 “You fathers—if your children ask[e] for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? 12 Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! 13 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”  The world would ask for worldly things.  Christians are not of this world, we belong to the One who paid the price for us, Jesus Christ.  When we belong to Him, he gives us the Holy Spirit and gives abundantly.  To be filled with the Spirit is the greatest feeling a person can have in my opinion.

Tomorrow’s reading for Luke 11:14-16

14 One day Jesus cast out a demon from a man who couldn’t speak, and when the demon was gone, the man began to speak. The crowds were amazed, 15 but some of them said, “No wonder he can cast out demons. He gets his power from Satan,[f] the prince of demons.” 16 Others, trying to test Jesus, demanded that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.
