Luke 23:13-16

Rachel Workman: 13 Then Pilate called together the leading priests and other religious leaders, along with the people, 14 and he announced his verdict. “You brought this man to me, accusing him of leading a revolt. I have examined him thoroughly on this point in your presence and find him innocent. 15 Herod came to the same conclusion and sent him back to us. Nothing this man has done calls for the death penalty. 16 So I will have him flogged, and then I will release him.”

Even the people who were looking to find fault in Jesus could not. Jesus deserved none of this yet accepted all of this for me. It's very humbling.

John Burnett:  13 Pilate summoned the chief priests and the rulers and the people,14 and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one who incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him. 15 No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him. 16 Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”  Pilate still punished him even though he found no fault in him.  It was just the beginning of the punishment he was going to take for our sake.

Tomorrow’s reading for Luke 23:17-21

17 [Now he was obliged to release to them at the feast one prisoner.] 18 Then a mighty roar rose from the crowd, and with one voice they shouted, “Kill him, and release Barabbas to us!” 19 (Barabbas was in prison for taking part in an insurrection in Jerusalem against the government, and for murder.) 20 Pilate argued with them, because he wanted to release Jesus. 21 But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
