Psalm 10:10-18

Rachel Workman:  Their helpless victims are crushed;
they fall beneath the strength of the wicked.
11 The wicked think, “God isn’t watching us!
He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”

12 Arise, O Lord!
    Punish the wicked, O God!
    Do not ignore the helpless!
13 Why do the wicked get away with despising God?
They think, “God will never call us to account.”
14 But you see the trouble and grief they cause.
You take note of it and punish them.
The helpless put their trust in you.
    You defend the orphans.

15 Break the arms of these wicked, evil people!
Go after them until the last one is destroyed.
16 The Lord is king forever and ever!
The godless nations will vanish from the land.
17 Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless.
Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
18 You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed,
so mere people can no longer terrify them.
Verse 14 stood out to me. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans. We are helpless against the type of evil David speaks of here. Orphaned children lost and in need of a Savior. God is our defender against the unseen forces that attack us every day. If we only could see what we come up against to combat it we would die of fright. If it weren't for Christ and the cross we wouldn't be adopted children. We would have no hope and no defender. We would be helpless and hopeless. As long as this world exists there will be evil but as long as our hope is in Christ we will be saved from it.

Carol Boring:  Evil never changes.  This sounds like our world today.

Allen Michaels:  10Their helpless victims are crushed;
they fall beneath the strength of the wicked.
11 The wicked think, “God isn’t watching us!
He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”
I think this is something that we all believe. I know there are times when I think to myself “maybe God didn’t hear that, or maybe God didn’t see that.” What’s even worse is when say or do something KNOWING that God sees and hears what we are doing.
God sees and takes note of each evil deed, encourages us, and hears our cries (10:17). He is always with us. We ca face the wicked because we do not face them alone. God is by our side.

(For 10:13-18) Even when it appears that God is blind to the evil deeds of others, we can be sure that one day He will respond with judgment. Those who drag others into sin will be judged harshly by God. This can be verified in Luke 17:1-3 Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come.  It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. So watch yourselves. “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. At times God works quietly behind the scenes helping those who admit their helplessness to overcome the enemies and problems they face. When we humble ourselves and put our trust in God, we can have hope that one day God will give us a full recovery.
