Psalm 8:1-9

Rachel Workman: 1 O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the heavens.
2 You have taught children and infants
    to tell of your strength,
silencing your enemies
    and all who oppose you.

3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
5 Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
7 the flocks and the herds
    and all the wild animals,
8 the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.

9 O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
This Psalm is completely humbling. I love the heart of David. Who are we that God would even think of us, let alone love us and make himself known to us. We are crowned with glory and honor. My mind can't even wrap around it. You know we like to play the what if game as humans. What if I hadn't made that decision. What if I had done something different. Well what if Jesus had not died on the cross for our sins? There would be no glory no honor no salvation, no personal relationship with God, no grace, no mercy, ect. We would be who we already are without Christ, worthless and unrighteous. But Jesus did die for our sins and we are crowned with glory and honor and we have done NOTHING to deserve it. Thank you Jesus for doing what I could not do for myself. There are a lot of things I feel like I deserve and some things I feel I don't deserve. But one think I do know is Jesus did not deserve the death he died.

Allen Michaels:O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the heavens.
You have taught children and infants
    to tell of your strength,
silencing your enemies
    and all who oppose you.
Children are able to trust and praise God without doubts or reservations. As we get older, many of us find this more and more difficult to do. Ask God to give you childlike faith, removing any barricades to having a closer walk with Him. Get in touch with this childlike quality in yourself so that you can be more expressive.

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
To respect God’s majesty, we must compare ourselves to His greatness. When we look at creation, we often feel small by comparison. To feel small is a healthy way to get back to reality, but God does not want us to dwell on our smallness. Humility means proper respect for God, not self-depreciation.
Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.
When we look at the vast expanse of creation, we wonder how God could be concerned for people who constantly disappoint Him. Yet God created us only a little lower than himself or the angels! The next time you question your worth as a person, remember that God considers you highly valuable. This is also something that we must keep in mind when we question someone else’s worth. God created each and every one of us exactly how we are. We have great worth because we bear the stamp of the creator. Because God has already declared how valuable we are to Him, we can be set free from feelings of worthlessness.
You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
God gave human beings tremendous authority – to be in charge of the whole earth. But with great authority comes great responsibility. I own 4 rescued dogs that I have the legal authority to do with as I wish (to an extent), but I also have the responsibility to feed and care for them. How do we treat God’s creation? Use our resources wisely because God holds us accountable for our stewardship.
the flocks and the herds
    and all the wild animals,
the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.
O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Many of our problems are rooted in our low self-esteem. Perhaps we were never listened to as children. Or maybe we were abused by people who had authority over us. Whatever the roots of our problems, we are now probably overly sensitive to the attacks of others. We see here that God has made us to be fantastic beings with great honor and authority. We should never sell ourselves short. Self-esteem should be based on what God thinks of us – not on what others say about us.

John Burnett:  How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who have [a]displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established [b]strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make the enemy and the revengeful cease.
When I [c]consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have [d]ordained;
What is man that You [e]take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
Yet You have made him a little lower than [f]God,
And You crown him with glory and majesty!
You make him to rule over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
All sheep and oxen,
And also the [g]beasts of the field,
The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!  Inspired one of my favorite hymns.  The power that God gave man to rule over the animals has been corrupted by man and now some think that they can control things like global warming/climate change.  There is only one King of Kings and He reigns.  He controls the weather and for those who don’t believe that are in for an abrupt climate change.

Krista Cook:  Worth repeating - "O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!!!!" Not much to add to this but Amen and thank You, Lord!
