Psalm 6:1-10

Rachel Workman: O Lord, don’t rebuke me in your anger
    or discipline me in your rage.
Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak.
    Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.
I am sick at heart.
    How long, O Lord, until you restore me?

Return, O Lord, and rescue me.
    Save me because of your unfailing love.
For the dead do not remember you.
    Who can praise you from the grave?[b]

I am worn out from sobbing.
    All night I flood my bed with weeping,
    drenching it with my tears.
My vision is blurred by grief;
    my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies.

Go away, all you who do evil,
    for the Lord has heard my weeping.
The Lord has heard my plea;
    the Lord will answer my prayer.
10 May all my enemies be disgraced and terrified.
    May they suddenly turn back in shame.

This Psalm can describe each and every one of us. Thank you Lord for having compassion on us because we are weak. The only person who can heal us from our sin is Christ and David knew that. We are all sick at heart because of our human nature. I am looking forward to the day that the Lord restores me.

John Burnett:  6 O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor chasten me in Your wrath.  Thankfully, we are adopted children and co-heirs and are not destined for his wrath.  In Revelation it says they will be biting their tongues to get relief as they suffer God’s wrath.
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am pining away;
Heal me, O Lord, for my bones are dismayed.
And my soul is greatly dismayed;
But You, O Lord—how long?
Return, O Lord, rescue my [b]soul;
Save me because of Your lovingkindness.
For there is no [c]mention of You in death;
In [d]Sheol who will give You thanks?
I am weary with my sighing;
Every night I make my bed swim,
I dissolve my couch with my tears.
My eye has wasted away with grief;
It has become old because of all my adversaries.
Depart from me, all you who do iniquity,
For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.
The Lord has heard my supplication,
The Lord receives my prayer.
10 All my enemies will be ashamed and greatly dismayed;
They shall [e]turn back, they will suddenly be ashamed.  I look forward to the day that this takes place.  One day, Jesus will return and verse 10 will be prophecy that has come true.

Mike Grimm:  O Lord, don’t rebuke me in your anger
    or discipline me in your rage.
    Who can praise you from the grave?
Although we might want instant relief from the anguish of temptation, it doesn’t usually come immediately. But when we realize that we are powerless over our dependency or compulsion, we have taken the first step toward recovery. Once we have acknowledged that God has the power to help us, we have taken the second step. Knowing about these important steps, however, is never enough to help us avoid destruction. We need to act on them too.

I am worn out from sobbing.
    All night I flood my bed with weeping,
    drenching it with my tears.
My vision is blurred by grief;
    my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies.
Go away, all you who do evil,
    for the Lord has heard my weeping.
The Lord has heard my plea;
    the Lord will answer my prayer.
10 May all my enemies be disgraced and terrified.
    May they suddenly turn back in shame.
 Even though we may be suffering greatly, we can have confidence that God answers our prayers. God will always hear our petitions and rescue us. We should be as bold as David is here, claiming victory at the end of his prayer. Prayer should not be a last-ditch tactic; it should be the basis for our battles for recovery.
