Rachel Workman: 29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and
John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law
was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 31 So
he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she
began to wait on them.
32 That
evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and
demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and
Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but
he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. The whole
town gathered at the door for Jesus's healing. I'm sure that included those who
believed and those who did not. But Jesus healed them. When I read these
scriptures of Jesus healing people I think wow that must have been nice. But if
I had to choose between my body being healed of disease or being healed of sin.
I'd pick being healed of sin. Sin is the only disease that brings death and
judgement.

John Burnett:
29 And
immediately after they came out of the synagogue, they came into the house
of Simon and Andrew, with [a]James and John. 30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law was
lying sick with a fever; and immediately they *spoke to [b]Jesus about her. 31 And He came to her and raised her
up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left her, and she [c]waited on them. I can
imagine that after a day to preaching and casting out demons, Jesus was hungry
and he already knew that she was the best cook, so he healed her so she could
take care of them.
32 When
evening came, after the sun had set, they began bringing
to Him all who were ill and those who were demon-possessed. 33 And the whole city had
gathered at the door. 34 And
He healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons;
and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He
was. Jesus came to heal us of our sin disease. Healing all these
people was a visual reminder of what He does for our Spirit when we repent and
put our trust in Him as our Savior.
Have a great weekend.

Monday's reading for Mark 1:35-39
35 Very
early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and
went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his
companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him,
they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”
38 Jesus
replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there
also. That is why I have come.” 39 So he traveled throughout
Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
