Matthew 5:13-16, Mark 14:21 and 9:49-50, Luke 8:16 and 14:34-35 (The Salt of the Earth) (The Light of the World)

Rachel Workman:
Matthew
Mark
Luke
John
(The Salt of the Earth)

5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

(The Light of the World)

5:14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Who doesn't love these verses? The light of the world. We are meant to shine so that Christ may be made known to other people. It's very humbling.

(The Salt of the Earth)
9:49 “For everyone will be tested with fire.  This brings me back to the fact that being in Christ does not mean easy sailing and good fortune all of your days. We will be tested with fire. We will suffer while on this earth. 50 Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.”
(The Light of the World)
4:21 Then Jesus asked them, “Would anyone light a lamp and then put it under a basket or under a bed? Of course not! A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light will shine.
(The Salt of the Earth)

14:34 “Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? 35 Flavorless salt is good neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown away. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!”

(The Light of the World)

8:16 “No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or hides it under a bed. A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house.

Luke is straight to the point.

(The Light of the World)

8:16 “No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or hides it under a bed. A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house.
We are called to be disciples and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We are to share the light of the world, and not keep it to ourselves.

Have a great weekend.
