Matthew 7:21-23, Luke 6:46, 13:25-27 (Saying Lord, Lord)

Rachel Workman:
Matthew
Mark
Luke
John
(Saying Lord, Lord)

21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

Just calling on the name of Lord does not save you. Repenting of your sins and believing that Christ is who he says he is and believing that he did what he said he did does.

(Saying Lord, Lord)

6:46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?
13:25 When the master of the house has locked the door, it will be too late. You will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Lord, open the door for us!’ But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ 26 Then you will say, ‘But we ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ 27 And he will reply, ‘I tell you, I don’t know you or where you come from. Get away from me, all you who do evil.’

I like this version much better than Matthew's. These verses are a little scary to me. The one verse that stands out to me us 13:25 When the master of the house has locked the door it will be too late. There will come a time when it's too late to make a decision for Christ. I can't say when that will be. I don't know the mind of the Lord. I know each day we are here is a day we are not promised. And each day could be our last. The question I have to ask is am I doing what Christ has asked me to do? My answer is sometimes. Sometimes I just fail miserably at doing His will. It seems like a lot lately.

Matthew
Mark
Luke
John
21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

This prophesy is being fulfilled today as many churches are falling away from sound doctrine.  Unfortunately, the pastors with the most influence are leading people astray and are not helping people to know Jesus Christ.  Many of the pastors on TV and their followers will fall under this prophesy and it is one of the signs that Jesus’ return is imminent.  Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Pat Bell: 6:46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? How can we know what he says if we don’t read the word?

Mike Grimm:
Matthew
Mark
Luke
John
21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.  Not everyone who talks about heaven belongs to God’s kingdom. Jesus is more concerned about our walk than our talk. He wants us to do right, not just say the right word. He wants action and not lip service. Your house (which represents your life, 7:24) will withstand the storms of life only if you do what is right instead of just talking about it. What you do can never be separated from what you believe. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’ On “judgment day” only our relationship with Christ – our acceptance of Him as Savior and our obedience to Him – will matter. In reality, faith in Christ is what will count at the judgment.

6:46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? If we call Him our Lord, we prove it by doing what He tells us to do in His Word. His lordship governs all of life, down to our very thoughts. Thus obedience to Jesus as Lord is not just an option for some who want to be more committed. It is part and parcel of the Christian life. Those who do not submit to the lordship of Jesus have good cause to question whether they are truly Christians.

Some people wait until it is too late. Then the owner of the house will deny that he knows them. The people outside will try to get in, because they have had a few contacts with Jesus. Many people who are members of a Christian country may consider themselves Christian. But they have no real desire to be disciples of Jesus. Jesus used words from Psalm 6:8. They are wicked. He does not recognize them. If they were genuine disciples, they would have changed their behavior.
