25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday
life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t
life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the
birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly
Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?
27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[d] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. |
Wow, these verses certainly do put things in their place.
Why do we worry? I know Satan loves it when we do. And no, nothing I have
ever worried about has added any days to my life. I love how simply Jesus
said that these worries dominate the thoughts of the unbelievers. They
dominate them. Think about that. Those thoughts control them. Maybe we need
to read these verses every day for a week or two or maybe at least I do. I
don't want anything in my life other than Christ that dominates or controls
me. I do worry and I need to let it go. It's like a germ spreading in my
body. God's word is the antibiotic to it. I need to allow it to heal me. |
22 Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why
I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to
eat or enough clothes to wear. 23 For life is more than food, and your
body more than clothing. 24 Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or
harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more
valuable to him than any birds! 25 Can all your worries add a single
moment to your life? 26 And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing
like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? 27 “Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 28 And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 29 “And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. 30 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. 31 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. |

25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday
life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t
life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Because of the ill effects of worry, Jesus tells us
not to worry about those needs that God promises to supply. There is a
difference between worry and genuine concern – worry immobilizes, but concern
moves us to action.
26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store
food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more
valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a
single moment to your life?
28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the
field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet
Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And
if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown
into the fire tomorrow,
he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat?
What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things
dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows
all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[d] above all
else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. To “Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously”
means to turn to God FIRST for help, to fill your thoughts with His desires,
to take His character for your pattern, and to serve and obey Him in
everything. We need to put God first in every area of our lives.
34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble
is enough for today. Planning
for tomorrow
is time well spent; worrying about tomorrow is time wasted. Those who worry, by
contrast, are consumed by fear and find it difficult to trust God.

22 Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why I
tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat
or enough clothes to wear. 23 For life is more than food, and
your body more than clothing. 24 Look at the ravens. They

bigger things?
27 “Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make

as they are. 28 And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers
that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you

29 “And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink.
Don’t worry about such things. 30 These things dominate the
thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows
your needs. 31 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he
will give you everything you need. (verse 32?)
Jesus commands us not to worry. But how can we avoid
it? Only faith can free us from the anxiety caused by greed and covetousness.
It is good to work and plan responsibly; it is bad to dwell on all the ways
our planning could go wrong. Worry is pointless because it can’t fill any of
our needs; worry is foolish because the Creator of the universe loves us and
knows what we need. He promises to meet all our real needs, but not
necessarily all our desires.
